Update on the Baker Street Cinema Campaign

After much consideration, the steering committee has taken the difficult decision not to proceed with a community purchase of Baker Street Cinema. Despite the enthusiasm and support we received, the financial challenges meant it was not viable to take on the building as a community enterprise at this time.

We know this will be disappointing news, but we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has backed the project, from those who attended meetings and offered expertise, to the many people who pledged time, energy and encouragement. Your support has meant a great deal.

Although the Baker Street project has come to an end, our vision for community cinema in Abergavenny has not. The society will remain in place, and we will be taking time to reflect on possible alternatives and explore a “Plan B” for the future.

Finally, we would like to express our gratitude to the current owners of Baker Street Cinema for their generosity and support during this process, and we wish them well in the next stage of their journey.

Thank you once again to everyone who shared in the dream. We hope this is not the end, but the beginning of another chapter for community cinema in our town.
