In Their Words: Why Saving Our Cinema Matters

Good luck and thank you to my friends in Abergavenny who are doing all they can to keep this cinema alive for the benefit of everyone who lives in the area.

An independent cinema can show not only the latest productions but also some of the great films of the past.

There will be laughter and sorrow, high drama and low comedy and sometimes great stories and ideas that make you think.

Cinema as a medium is as important as theatre, music venues and art galleries and is a central part of our cultural heritage. It is also good fun, and a place to meet friends and have a great night out.

(Kes, I Daniel Blake, Cathy Come Home)

“Every wonderful town deserves a wonderful cinema and it enhances a community to have a communal viewing of a film, that joins people and creates debate.

I visited Abergavenny and saw the engagement of the audience when I visited Baker Street Cinema and it would be a shame to deny that pleasure to future generations, and I sincerely hope the cinema can be retained. “

Prominent Welsh Actor,

(The Crown, Pirates of the Caribbean)

“It’s ‘Save The Cinema’ Again !!
Carmarthen did it.
Come on Abergavenny.
Save YOUR cinema.
Fight for it.“
